Parken Challenger Championship #3 recap

Parken Challenger Championship #3 – A Defining Moment in the Major Race

From March 31st to April 2nd, Parken Challenger Championship returned to Copenhagen for its third edition—bringing together 12 ambitious teams in one of the most competitive and consequential Tier 2 LAN events of the year.

With VRS points, Major qualification dreams, and momentum on the line, Season 3 delivered everything: upsets, breakout performances, heartbreak—and ultimately, a statement victory that reshaped the road to Cologne.

A Tournament Defined by Pressure and Opportunity

Season 3 arrived at a critical moment in the competitive calendar. With the race for the IEM Cologne Major intensifying, every match carried weight far beyond the prize pool.

The field featured clear favorites in 3DMAX, B8, and BESTIA, but the presence of hungry challengers—including AM, Falcons Force, and three Danish representatives (AaB, WAZABI, Sashi Academy)—set the stage for a volatile and unpredictable tournament.

The format remained ruthless:

  • 12 teams
  • Two groups (BO1 round robin)
  • Top 4 advance to double-elimination playoffs (BO3)

From the very first round, it was clear: no one was safe.

Group Stage – Upsets Shake the Foundation

While many expected the favorites to cruise, the group stage quickly flipped expectations.

The biggest early shock came when WAZABI stunned B8, handing the eventual champions a critical loss that immediately put their Major hopes under pressure.

At the same time:

  • AaB surged to a 4–1 record, narrowly missing a perfect run after an overtime loss to 3DMAX
  • BESTIA defeated 3DMAX early, asserting themselves as a serious contender
  • B8 recovered to finish 4–1, showing resilience despite the upset loss

By the end of groups, the standings told a story of balance at the top:

  • Group A: B8 and AM (4–1)
  • Group B: BESTIA, 3DMAX, AaB (all 4–1), Falcons Force advancing

The favorites were still alive—but cracks had formed.

Playoffs – Where the Major Dreams Were Won and Lost

The playoff bracket brought immediate high-stakes matchups:

  • WAZABI vs 3DMAX
  • AaB vs AM
  • BESTIA vs Phantom
  • B8 vs Falcons Force

Danish Hopes and Heartbreak

For the home crowd, AaB’s run was one of the defining emotional storylines.

After a strong group stage, they:

  • Lost to BESTIA in a close upper bracket battle
  • Fell again to Falcons Force in elimination, ending their campaign

Falcons Force, led in part by rising talent clockzi, became one of the breakout stories of the event.

Meanwhile:

  • WAZABI’s Cinderella momentum faded, exiting after losses to 3DMAX and Falcons Force

The Turning Point – B8 vs 3DMAX

One of the most defining matches of the tournament—and arguably the entire Major race—came in the consolidation final between B8 and 3DMAX.

In a do-or-die series:

  • B8 reverse-swept 3DMAX
  • Dominated the final maps after losing the opener
  • Eliminated one of the tournament favorites

This loss effectively ended 3DMAX’s Major qualification hopes, marking one of the biggest collapses of the event.

The Grand Final – B8 Completes the Run

The final brought together two teams that had navigated very different paths:

  • BESTIA, consistent and composed throughout
  • B8, battle-tested after a lower bracket run

The series delivered a dramatic three-map battle:

  • Dust2: BESTIA 13–8
  • Mirage: B8 16–14 (OT)
  • Ancient: B8 16–12 (OT)

B8 completed the comeback to win 2–1, lifting the trophy in Copenhagen.

Champions – B8 Rise When It Matters Most

B8’s victory was more than just a tournament win—it was a defining moment in their season.

Their journey included:

  • A group stage scare vs WAZABI
  • A lower bracket survival run
  • A revenge victory over 3DMAX
  • A comeback final under pressure

The win propelled them up the rankings and placed them firmly in contention for Major qualification, showcasing their ability to perform when everything is on the line.
